Well done, Venaria Reale & Trumpet Power!

by David on June 6, 2010

Extraordinary inauguration last night of the Venaria Reale Music 2010 festival! Che emozione!

The ‘Versailles’ of the Savoy – former rulers of Piedmont and Italy – was marvelously restored in 2007, and today both the palace and gardens can be visited. Could there be a better way to appreciate the serene surroundingsĀ  than with a delicious aperitivo, a musical fountain & lights show, and a concert with some of the best jazz musicians in the world?

It is sincerely hoped that ‘Trumpet Power’ – which made its intergalactic debut at Venaria last night – will soon make its way elsewhere on the planet (and beyond…). Such powerful emotions cannot be contained within a stately courtyard of Northwest Italy, but should naturally meander around the world, inspiring all those fortunate enough to experience it. Trumpet Power is led by American composer and Klezmatics star Frank London, Italian creative genius Paolo Fresu, Balkan wonder Marco Markovic and funky Latino Jerry Gonzalez, and is chock-full of other superb musicians, including drummer/Northern Italy adventurer-mountaineer Richie Barshay.
